Hello everyone,
My name is Paul Deutsch and I own the Sweet Ridge Organic Dairy here in Westby, WI. I am a certified organic dairy producer, a category of farmers that is growing within the Westby Cooperative Creamery to satisfy the needs of organic-conscious consumers. I currently milk 26 cows at my 50-acre Vernon County farm.
As an American farmer, I feel a strong sense of pride when someone selects an organic product made with the milk from my cows. It's a great feeling to know that I am able to contribute to the health of children and families across the country. Farmers like me may be unsung and perhaps off the radar, but we all know that we are pivotal in people's lives and in the framework of our society.
When I bought the land to begin my farm 14 years ago, I knew in the back of my mind that Westby would be the perfect fit for my business and farm model. It's a community-based business that has exhibited decades of paying special attention to its patrons. The care and understanding the Cooperative displays for its patrons and employees is something that I believe shows up in the quality of the product line.
In the way that Westby cares for the well-being of my operation, I like to think I share that same passion for the well-being of my cows. I think of my cows as my employees. By providing them with comfortable and clean living conditions, the best quality feed rations and keeping close tabs on to their health and nutrition, I feel they will do the best job they can for me, and more importantly for you, the consumer.
I may be relatively new to dairy farming, but I am determined to become a better manager and implement a framework that will help me overcome any daily obstacles.
