High Grove Farm Journal – April 2026
May 07, 2026 (Westby, WI)
April feels like a long-awaited exhale, and here at High Grove Dairy Farm, we’re more than ready to breathe out that final sigh of relief that winter is done, and welcome the warmth back to our corner of Wisconsin.
Hello from the Rogers family! Each month we enjoy sharing a glimpse of life on our farm for Westby Cooperative Creamery and this last month has been productive.

As the seasons move along, no two months ever feel the same on a farm. The weather and work shift from March to April is one of my favorites. The snow finally retreats, revealing soft, waking ground and longer days that promise what’s ahead. Yard work and field work begins, if the weather allows! And there’s a quiet energy settling in—everything not fully ready yet, but no longer asleep.

The best day, though, is turning the cows out to pasture. After a long winter, they run, kick, and settle into the fresh grass like they’ve been waiting all year. Watching them graze under the spring sky is a simple kind of joy that makes all the waiting worth it.

Drew’s list of daily farm projects gets especially long this time of year, but with extra help from the boys at milking time, he’s been able to check quite a few things off the list. There’s always another piece of equipment needing attention and field work only he can tackle. Plus, the added record keeping and paperwork that comes with organic farming takes even more of his time. His determination, focus and energy to get all the work done and done right is always impressive to me. I am so grateful for the example he sets for our children. Now if the weather would warm up so we can plant… that would be amazing!
Thanks for stopping by the farm!
