The warm month of September was full of watching our sons play high school and middle school football and the start of another big project on our farm. We began trenching for water lines out to the cow pastures along the now finished cow lanes. This whole project has been planned for a long time and it’s been amazing to see each step getting accomplished one by one!
Hello! I am Jessica, and my husband and I, along with our four children Carter, Caleb, Laney and Tulsie, operate a dairy farm in the beautiful Driftless region of Wisconsin. Each month I write about life on our dairy farm.

The multi-step water line project was a big undertaking, and the Rogers family is happy to see the work progressing.
Just before the waterline project we harvested our sorghum Sudan crop and corn to make into corn silage. We hire a custom chopping crew and bought the corn from a neighbor. It’s always such a good feeling to have the feed put up for the year. And as soon as the Sorghum was off, Drew was ready to plant some winter crops for next year.

Harvest time on High Grove Farm.
The gardens are coming to the end of a productive year. We’ve been harvesting and cleaning up but we still have plenty to do.

The boys schedules have been full of football and football practice. In their spare time, they’ve been helping us with chores around the farm, like picking squash.
The cows have been grazing mostly at night and sometimes on the cool autumn days. This is such a good time of the year to get work done and, while we work towards finishing up the big lanes and fencing project, there’s still daily farm chores that need to be done morning and night. But wow the mornings are dark lately.
The cows really settle down this time of the year and seem to truly enjoy the cool nights and fall days. We’re excitedly looking forward to the completion of projects and with that, the chance to button the place up for winter, which will be here before we know it.
Thanks for visiting the farm!
