Westby Creamery Supports Hunger Task Force
May 03, 2023 (Westby, WI)
Westby Cooperative Creamery is a proud participant in the Badger Box Program organized by Hunger Task Force and distributed by Hunger Relief Federation of Wisconsin. This program helps bring fresh, local foods to those in need right here in Wisconsin.
The Badger Box Program supports Wisconsin two-fold: by purchasing products from local food systems and producers – like Westby Cooperative Creamery – as well as providing high-quality, culturally relevant foods to low-income families throughout the state. In 2022, Hunger Task Force purchased nearly $9.7 million worth of products.
Each box is packed with 100% Wisconsin-produced goods from over 35 small- to medium-sized farms, ranches, cooperatives and food producers. Then they are delivered to various food banks, pantries and distribution hubs across Wisconsin.
Many of these boxes make their way to the Creamery’s surrounding communities. “In 2022, the Badger Box program purchased tens of thousands of dollars in product from Westby Creamery. These dollars support our 130 dairy farm families, 130 employees and their families, countless suppliers we do business with and community organizations we support,” Emily Bialkowski, Creamery sales and marketing manager said. “The program is a win-win for families needing nutrition support and businesses in Wisconsin.”
The program is made possible from ARPA funding granted by Wisconsin Governor Evers and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP). You can help keep the Badger Box around by requesting funds be allocated in the next State budget. Learn more at https://www.hungertaskforce.org/what-we-do/badger-box/
