French Onion Sweeps Flavored Sour Cream Category

Westby Cooperative Creamery was awarded first place for its conventional French onion dip and second place for the organic French onion dip at the 2023 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest on June 23. This is the fifth year in a row Westby has swept the flavored sour cream category. Winners were then invited to the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.
“In a state with so many talented cheesemakers, we’re honored to be listed among some of the best dairy products in Wisconsin,” JD Greenwalt, the Creamery’s general manager said. “It all comes back to our small family farms and their commitment to supplying the highest-quality milk to create these award-winning products.”
The Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction is a fundraiser for the Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotions Board. Auction proceeds fund scholarships for students pursuing dairy-related degrees and support the board’s interactive educational display – Dairy Lane. This year, six pounds of Westby French onion dip raised $1,200 for those scholarships thanks to Saz’s Hospitality Group. The bids were high with a total of $50,155 raised at the event – a half gallon of chocolate milk went for a whopping $1,000!

Westby Cooperative Creamery has been in continual operation since 1903 and is unique in that it accepts both organic and conventional milk from its patron-member-owners.
